Questions That Count
It is important to make your questions count. Why do you think that is? Questions are like plays in game. You only get so many and then it is over. While it is important to ask questions, listening and asking the follow up questions is the key skill for successful people.
Why is that? When you first ask the question, you may not actually get the answer for which you were looking.
Why is that? First, it may take a while for someone to think through the entire issue. Because of that it takes multiple questions to help them process their thoughts. As the quality of the questions you ask increases, the more effective you can be.
Why is that? The other person may not trust you to the point where they would be comfortable in telling you what you want. Given that, people tend to hold back the entire answer until they are comfortable. Have you done that?
There is no one question that is a silver bullet that gets the job done each and every time. Why is that? Each situation is different and each person is different. Plus, the same person in dealing with the same situation on a different day may react differently because something has changed since you last talked with them.
As a result, different questions make a huge difference.
